MEETING AND GREETING A GUEST AS AN ETIQUETTE NORM OF THE KARACHAI-BALKAR PEOPLE IN THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract. The article deals with the etiquette norms that existed in the traditional ethno-culture of the Karachais and the Balkars towards guests in the XIX century. The main attention is paid to the initial stage of communication between a host and a guest - the rules of meeting and greeting. The author notes that the traditions and norms, which developed in this sphere, played an exceptional role in relations both between representatives of one society and in interethnic interaction, taking an honorable place in the universal culture. The paper studies various etiquette variations in the reception of the guest, depending on the degree of kinship, acquaintance, gender factor. The factors of choosing a place of staying and the circumstances excluding a possibility of guest accommodation are noted.
