DOMESTIC CRAFTS AND SMALL-SCALE ENTERPRISES OF THE SOUTHERN AND SOUTH-EASTERN REGIONS OF NIZHNY NOVGOROD PROVINCE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX - AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. The article examines the state and development of non-agricultural activities of the population of the Black Earth regions of Nizhny Novgorod Province in the second half of the XIX - at the beginning of the XX century. Regardless of favourable for cultivation soil and existence of the basic economic pattern in the form of agriculture, in the big southern and south-eastern regions there appeared firstly the centers of domestic craft and later on more developed forms of non-agricultural activities. The Regulations on state trade tax influenced greatly their development. The analysis indicates that formation of certain forms of craft depended directly on natural geographical and historical factors.
