FUNCTIONS OF CLOTHES IN WEDDING CEREMONIES OF THE CHUVASH PEOPLE

Abstract. The article deals with the functions of clothes in the Chuvash wedding ceremonies and the ideas associated with them. The author comes to the conclusion that the traditional Chuvash suite acted as an element of gift exchange between the relatives of the bride and bridegroom, was part of the dowry and bride-money, and was used to show the status of the main characters of the wedding and ceremonial registration of the transition of the bride to a new social and age group. In addition, clothes were used as a protective and producing means or attribute in various magical rites.
