MUSLIM COMMUNITIES OF THE UDMURT REPUBLIC: CHALLENGES OF MODERNITY AND MODELS OF INTERACTION IN THE REGIONAL SOCIETY

Abstract. The article examines the place of Muslim communities in the multi-confessional and multi-ethnic space of the Udmurt Republic, analyzes the experience of the interaction between Islamic organizations in the context of social and demographic processes taking place in the region. The authors point to a change in the ethnic composition of believers, the complication of relationships both within Muslim communities and with the state authorities. At the same time, Islamic organizations have a serious potential for transferring and preserving the experience of intercultural good neighborliness historically developed in Udmurtia.
