Abstract. This article is devoted to the analysis of television as the main means of mass media having its own specificity. Modern television, conceived as a means of democratization of the society and the possibility of increasing its educational and cultural level, turned out to be able to generate new sociocultural "media" reality. Television is able to influence insensibly a person’s perception of the surrounding reality and to formulate attitudes and opinions about the social world.
