GEOCULTURAL SPACE OF THE OLD BELIEVERS’ SPIRITUAL VERSES

Abstract. The object of this study is geocultural space of spiritual verses from the repertoire of the Old Believers. Topoi, loci, toponyms are viewed as cultural symbols reflecting the spatial picture of the world of the Old Believers and are one of the means of their cultural and religious self-identification. The paper analyzes topoi of natural, sacred, metaphorical origin and the dynamic topos of the road. The author characterizes the toponymic system of the spiritual verse reflecting perception of geographical names and their functioning in collective consciousness of the Old Believers. Spiritual verses space is axiologically loaded. It is centered around the cultural binarity "righteousness - sinfulness" that underlies the Orthodox view of the universe embracing cosmic scales of celestial and earthly worlds, each of which has its own stable geocultural symbols.
