REPRESENTATION OF SOCIETY’S SPIRITUAL STATE IN ICON-PAINTING HERITAGE OF CHEREPOVETS REGION OF THE XVII-XIX CENTURIES

Abstract. The article for the first time traces interrelation between the artistic evolution of icon painting in Cherepovets region in the second half of the XVII - at the beginning of the XX century and the spiritual state of the society. The author introduces some documents indicating that in the mentioned period in the area under study the continuous process of Christian consciousness secularization occurred into scientific use. The Russian icon in its development delicately represented the most complicated processes that took place in the nation’s worldview.
