OLYMPIC GAMES OF 1980 AND 2014: INTERRELATION OF SPORTS AND POLITICS

Abstract. The article analyzes the interrelation and interference of politics and sports. The political commitment of sports was formed in the period of "cold war", when political opposition was reinforced by the attempts of discrediting and boycotting the Olympic Games with the purpose to hurt the reputation component of the competing state. In the conditions of globalization western political and information strategists use sports as a powerful lever of geopolitical influence to discredit Russia in the international arena.
