Abstract. The article contains an analysis of the artistic scientific-practical activity of the students of "Design" training direction in Syktyvkar State University named after Pitirim Sorokin. Projects of accessories for home decor, exhibition space equipment made by the students using the folk images and decorative and applied arts objects of certain Finno-Ugric peoples are presented. Technical-technological, methodological approaches to the development of original products design and composition are proposed. The possibility and benefit of turning to the traditional methods of projecting to solve topical problems in design are proved.
