Abstract. The article deals with the vital activity of Saratov Medical Institute during the Great Patriotic War. The author analyzes the directions of the activity of the institution of higher education: teaching, research, military-patriotic, social directions. The paper shows the role of the institute in the organization of hospitals in the region, the implementation of medical and advisory work in them. The author comes to the conclusion about the radical restructuring of the work of the institute in the conditions of the wartime and the immense contribution of its staff in the delivery of health care at the front and in the rear.
