Abstract. The article is devoted to analyzing the ethno-cultural contacts of the Karachai and Balkarians with other Caucasian peoples on the basis of the museum collections of the Russian Museum of Ethnography. The authors identify, first of all, the elements of Karachay-Balkar material culture, which manifest similarity with other neighbouring ethnic groups, allow somehow tracing its evolutionary development conditioned by the mutual influence and mixture of Turkic and local (Caucasian) traditions.
