Abstract. The article examines two phenomena of the post-modern society: hyper-real religion and hyper-real atheism. "Political economy of the sign" theory by Jean Baudrillard is a context for the origin of the concept "hyper-real religion" - the phenomenon eliminating difference between the signifier and signified, the subject and sign. Similar to hyper-real religion, modern atheism can be interpreted as hyper-real godlessness forming its own subjective myths, copying them from the hyper-real images of science and providing ontological security to its followers.
