CHILDREN’S CYCLE RITUALS OF THE NORTH CAUCASUS MOUNTAIN JEWS
Murzakhanov Yurii Isaevich
Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov
Abstract. The article examines the North Caucasus Mountain Jews’ children’s cycle rituals, which are one of the structural components of the traditional everyday culture of the ethnos. The Mountain Jews had a complicated and peculiar set of customs and rituals associated with the birth and education of children. The author believes that nowadays, though the everyday segregation of sexes has vanished, nevertheless the requirements for a girl preserve certain traditional peculiarities, due to which some most archaic rules of behaviour are still observed. Field ethnographic materials served as sources for the study.
