Abstract. The article examines the Eastern Slavs’ mythological worldview in Russian folk tales. The author emphasizes the collective nature of the Russian tale, which is revealed in plots and mythologemes. Fabulous plots represent the religious, everyday and moral and ethical views of antiquity. By an archetypal analysis the paper identifies the basic nature of fabulous narration, distinguishes the features that make a tale similar to an archaic myth. The researcher justifies the meaning of the tale for the human of the past and the value of studying fabulous heritage for the present and future.
