HEDONISM OF HISTORICAL SCENES IN RUSSIAN SALON AND ACADEMIC PAINTING OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract. The article examines certain aspects of hedonism development in the Russian salon and academic painting of the second half of the XIX century, explores the themes and genre affiliation of the pictures, in which hedonistic tendencies and, partly, the hedonistic function of art are identified. According to the author, hedonistic tendencies are typical not only for the salon and academic trend but also for the democratic one. Special attention is paid to the pictures devoted to the image of Ivan the Terrible and his epoch.
