Abstract. The article examines the traditional wedding rituals of the North Caucasus Mountain Jews. To trace the innovation processes somehow affecting certain aspects of the modern wedding rituals of the North Caucasus Mountain Jews the author focuses on their wedding cycle rituals of the past. The paper concludes that the wedding of Mountain Jews nowadays is carried out according to the traditional ritual but pre-wedding rites (viewing of the bride, matchmaking, engagement) and wedding celebration itself have undergone cardinal changes. Field ethnographic materials served as sources for the study.
