Abstract. The article examines different aspects of the activity of children’s homes, which functioned within the territory of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the 30s of the XX century. Much attention is paid to the drawbacks and difficulties in the process of the educational and up-bringing activity of these institutions that had both objective and subjective character. At the same time the important role of school children’s homes in struggle against homelessness, especially in the aspect of the educational and professionally-labour training of the inmates, is emphasized.
