Abstract. The article deals with the peculiarities of the perception of the main character of A. L. Webber’s musical "The Phantom of the Opera" by Christine Daa?, which influence the formation of her artistic image. It is ascertained that the heroine passes a difficult way: from exalted delight through empathy, fear and doubt to hatred, rage, despair and finally to compassion. Perceiving the appearance of the Phantom Christine is in the power of the stereotype of the monster-killer imposed by the society, but in the final she overcomes it opening her heart to compassion, the acceptance of the inner essence of the main character.
