Abstract. The article examines the significance of technique in the processes of estrangement in the framework of philosophical analysis. The classification of the types of estrangement, in which technique plays a specific role, is given. Special attention is paid to the understanding of estrangement in the socio-philosophical aspect, ontological, economic, existential approaches. The issue about the fourth scientific revolution as a specific factor of the development of the contemporary world is raised. The contradictive, ambiguous role of technique in the phenomena of estrangement is shown.
