ORIGINS OF "BLACK LEGEND" ABOUT PHILIP II IN THE WORKS OF MODERN EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN HISPANISTS

Abstract. The article aims to study the modern state of the historiographic concept "Black Legend" about Spain, to analyze the interpretation of the "Black Legend" origins by the leading Hispanists of Europe and Northern America. The authors describe modern approaches to the interpretation of this phenomenon considering a set of the motives, which conditioned its origin. The paper concludes on the tendency to evaluate critically the conception "Black Legend" and on the relevance of this theme among modern Hispanists conditioned by the ambiguity of views and approaches.
