REGIONAL AND ETHNIC FEATURES IN PUERPERAL RITES OF THE KUBAN NOGAIS

Abstract. The article deals with the customs and rites of the Kuban Nogais associated with the birth and the first months of a child’s life. The main stages of puerperal cycle are analyzed in the context of social and ritual functions, and their regional (all-Caucasian) and individual (ethnic) characteristics are identified. The authors suppose that the changes are conditioned by the long dwelling of this sub-ethnic group in neighborhood with other North Caucasian peoples, as well as by regional unification and the general processes of globalization.
