REFLECTION OF L. N. TOLSTOY’S WORLD VIEW IN JAPANESE CULTURE AT THE TURN OF THE XIX-XX CENTURIES

Abstract. The article analyzes the reflection of L. N. Tolstoy’s world view in the context of Japanese culture at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. The main thesis of L. N. Tolstoy’s ethics "good is in the soul of each person", the doctrine about non-resistance to evil by violence, about moral self-perfection as a foundation of society transformation in combination with the uncompromising exposure of social evil turned out to be in harmony with Japanese mentality. L. N. Tolstoy’s creative work is consonant with the traditions of Japanese literature, enriched it with new techniques of realistic writing, topical philosophical subject matter, and contributed to more organic fusion of the thought profoundness.
