Abstract. The article for the first time provides an analysis of duty and service conception in early Christian Church not from the viewpoint of theological doctrines but by evaluating the level of the influence of Christianity on these categories and their propagation among the Roman society. The author concludes that duty conception imposed upon service conception and relying on Christian doctrines resulted in the extensive propagation of Christianity and became one of the key motives of this process due to the peculiarities of early sermons, which promoted eliminating boundaries between the ordinary members of the community and its leaders.
