SCIENTIFIC SCEPTICISM AS A CULTURAL PHENOMENON AND A METHOD TO STUDY PARANORMAL AND PSEUDOSCIENTIFIC CONCEPTIONS

Abstract. The article discovers historical and philosophical backgrounds for the origin and development of scientific scepticism as a new scientific and philosophical trend and a cultural phenomenon. The paper describes the essence and typical features of scientific scepticism as an essential method and scientists’ activity principle aimed to investigate critically any information claiming to be truthful and objective, particularly in the sphere of pseudoscience and all the forms of believing in paranormal and supernatural.
