Abstract. The situation of the beginning of the XX century according to a number of its features turned out into something reminding the period of birth and childhood - that is a reason of the flourishing of the phenomenon, which can be denoted as "youthful subject matter". Among the native composers of the 1910s Sergei Prokofiev reflected youthful subject matter and the idea of the world discovery connected with it with the greatest fullness. It is presented mainly in the series of contrasting pieces that allow showing various states (Ten Pieces op. 12, the cycle "Instantaneities" and others). Child’s and youthful perception of life is inseparable from playing mood as often as not acting in conjugation with scherzo character. The special vivacity of temperament and the spontaneity of manifestations so peculiar to Prokofiev’s characters adjoin with the playing element. Such large-scale compositions as Piano Concerto No. 1 and Symphony No. 1 give their own aspects of youth images realization.
