WHAT IS DIRECTOR PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE?

Abstract. In the article the productions of Shakespeare’s "Macbeth" in two major theaters: Lensoviet Academic Theatre and Theater-Festival "Baltic House", are analyzed. The comparison of various director’s interpretations and approaches to the stage adaptation of the playwright’s text is presented. Particular attention is paid to the difficulties of the relationship of modern directors with Shakespeare’s plays. Revealing the "narrow" places of the director’s work with Shakespeare the author describes general approaches to the dramaturgical material and determines the methodology of the productions and their relation to the present time.
