Abstract. In the article a brief history of the formation of the academic discipline "Local History" is presented, the authors’ experience of teaching local history subjects is summarized. Local history is analyzed as an effective means of education and upbringing. Aiming at identifying problems in its development the researchers prove that local history as a science and a branch of activity is an important component of the formation of the human’s culture, his/her spirituality and professional competences. The measures to optimize the impact of local history educational courses on the cultorologization of education are suggested.
