Abstract. The article by the example of Vyatka province Pudemsky mine residents analyzes the mining community of the end of the XIX century. The materials of the First National Population Census of the Russian Empire of 1897 served as a source base of the research. The author examines the social, ethno-confessional, age and gender structure, occupation, literacy and marital status. The analysis indicated the homogeneity of the industrial community’s structure manifested in the prevalence of the Russian Orthodox peasantry; the researcher identified the basic sources of income and the specifics of changing the household typology.
