Abstract. The article sets a problem to consider a woman’s position in the society and the female theme reflection in art. It is shown that transformations in social life change the woman herself and attitude to her, in particular getting civil rights by women and their involvement in professional activity. Attention is paid to symbols that were fixed in the female image first in painting and then in the modern mass media. The author suggests changing the content of the female image existing in the media today.
