Abstract. The article examines the terms "existential" and "fundamental existential" of early M. Heidegger. It is substantiated that pain can be considered as one of fundamental existentials. As the determinative feature (and "megatrend") of modern civilization is its hedonistic nature, pain and related phenomena acquire particular, crucial meaning. Pain more and more frequently acts as an implicit determinative factor ("antivector") changing the basic parameters of civilization. The paper traces influence of this factor on mass culture and mass psychology, moral health of the society and social conflicts.
