"ARABIC RENASCENCE" AND WOMEN’S ISSUE IN EGYPT AT THE END OF THE XIX - THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of women’s emancipation and gender equality in Egypt at the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century in the "an-Nakhda" ("Renascence") period of spiritual elevation. During modernization there occurred transformation of traditional stereotypes aimed to change the woman’s role in the Arabic Muslim society. Muslim educators and modernists argued that many provisions of traditional Islam, in particular, women’s issue, became old-fashioned and should be revised.
