SYMBOLICS AND DECORATION OF THE TUVAN STYLIZED NATIONAL COSTUME

Abstract. The article discusses semantics of Buddhist signs and symbols and their use in decorating the national costume of the Tuvan people. The analysis is based on examination of museum collections. Special attention is paid to the colour of clothing items, as well as to such Buddhist symbols as knot of happiness, golden wheel or wheel of Dharma, parasol, lotus. These symbols and colours associated with development of Buddhism in Tuva play a very important role in life of the Tuvan people and have a spiritual and sacred value. The purpose of the paper is to show on the basis of Tuvan folklore the relationship of religious-philosophical and elements of Buddhist symbols in decoration of the national costume of the Tuvan people.
