Abstract. This article discusses examples of using historical memory as a means of the revolutionary process legitimation by the example of pre-revolutionary Russia at the beginning of the XX century. The author, basing on literary and memoir materials, conceptualizes strategies of dealing with the past as an important symbolic resource. Special attention is paid to dynamics of historical memory images as a mechanism of symbolic competition of political elites.
