D. I. MENDELEEV AND CRITICISM OF SPIRITUALISM IN RUSSIA

Abstract. The article presents the results of the analysis of the activity of D. I. Mendeleev in the field of struggle against spiritualism spread in Russia in the second half of the XIX century. The activity of well-known mediums from the position of scientific materialism was investigated in the course of the work of a Commission that was created by him for consideration of mediumistic phenomena empirically. The principles and methods of studies that were conducted by the Commission of D. I. Mendeleev are still relevant. They are used successfully by the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation within the framework of struggle against modern pseudo-science.
