OSSETIAN ORNAMENTAL MOTIFS AND THEIR TRADITIONAL NATURE

Abstract. The article considers the Ossetian national ornament and its basic elements as an original phenomenon of popular culture. The rich heritage of the Ossetian people from the past centuries - ornamental elements on objects of applied art of the Koban culture - is considered in this paper as confirmation of deep successive connection between Ossetian artistic culture and culture of the Scythians, Sarmatians and Alans. As an example of folk creativity some works of art by the Ossetian sculptor Soslanbek Edziev are analyzed.
