Abstract. The article states that the self-identification of an individual with the country as Homeland or the rejection of it determines the fate of the country. The identification process has subjective-objective nature and therefore depends on the individual’s qualities and information environment that surrounds him/her. Official and opposition ideologies share opposite views on the issue of understanding Homeland as a basis of collective identity. In this regard, the methods of maintaining collective identity on the grounds of connection with Homeland and the methods of counteracting it are revealed.
