SOCIAL CAUSES OF RADICAL GENDER REPRESENTATIONS: STATEMENT OF THE ISSUE

Abstract. The article raises the question of invariant or radical gender representations affecting a human’s body, changing an individual physically, demanding legal consolidation of sex change. The number of such radical representational practices is growing, but there are different tendencies in unequal conditions: in Western Europe and Latin America there is a growing wave of "male to female" sex change, in Russia and the former socialist sector there is a tendency for "female to male" change. This trend suggests a social determinant of the phenomenon.
