KOMSOMOL ORGANIZATION OF THE RIGHT-OF-WAY OF THE CHINESE EASTERN RAILWAY AS A FACTOR OF SOVIET INFLUENCE IN MANCHURIA (1920-1928)

Abstract. In the period from 1924 till 1935 the Chinese Eastern Railway, which had major economic, political and military-strategic importance, was under joint Soviet-Chinese administration, and Soviet citizens lived and worked in its right-of-way. Soviet presence at the Chinese Eastern Railway was an essential condition for political influence of the USSR in Northeast China, and the Komsomol organization was intended to strengthen and expand it. The article shows that the activity of Komsomol in this sphere was significantly complicated by political conditions prevailing in the right-of-way of the Chinese Eastern Railway in the 1920s.
