Abstract. The article aims to interpret certain peculiarities of Kalmyk national musical worldview by the example of the concept "Skylark" (" Тор?а "). The author analyzes the genesis of this concept in Kalmyk folklore. The concept "skylark" acquires special importance in the creative work of the first professional Kalmyk composer P. O. Chonkushov coming out as a key characteristic of his style, discovering the deeper meaning of his music, associating it with national origins.
