STATUS OF LIMOGES ENAMELLERS IN SOCIO-POLITICAL REALIA OF THE XVI-XVII CENTURIES

Abstract. The article analyzes in detail the influence of civil crises on the life of Limoges enamellers in the XVI-XVII centuries. Painted enamel refers to applied and decorative art and its study is possible only when analyzing the socio-political and economical context. Special attention is paid to little-known facts on enamellers’ social status and their private life, which allows the author to analyze comprehensively the development of Limoges painted enamel.
