CREATIVE HERITAGE OF THE PAINTER J. J. METTENLEITER IN RUSSIAN COLLECTIONS

Abstract. The article examines the works of the German painter J. J. Mettenleiter created in the period of his work in Russia, which are for the first time analyzed in the general context of the painter’s creative work; the paper focuses on changes in his artistic manner, his search for new types and genres of painting. The author proposes to use the results of studying Mettenleiter’s many-sided creative heritage when analyzing the activity of other foreign painters, who worked in Russia in the XVIII - at the beginning of the XIX century.
