Abstract. The article is devoted to the examination of the ethno-social characteristics of the Russian population of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in the conditions of ethnicity mobilization at the turn of the XX-XXI centuries. The author notes that in spite of the substantial outflow of the Russian population that has continued for the last 20-30 years the republic has managed to keep its multiple ethno-cultural communities. One must admit that nowadays the coordinated efforts of federal and regional authorities should be directed not at the return of the Russians, who have left the Republic, but at the creation of favorable conditions for keeping the remained ones.
