ARRANGEMENT OF GREEK SETTLERS IN THE SOUTH OF RUSSIA AND REASONS OF THEIR SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION IN BUSINESS LIFE OF THE REGION (THE SECOND HALF OF THE XVIII - THE BEGINNING OF THE XIX CENTURY)

Abstract. The article deals with the conditions of the stay of Greek settlers in the south of Russia, their adaptation to local peculiarities, and participation in the economic life of the region. Special attention is paid to the identification of the reasons of the successful entrepreneurial activity of the Greek diaspora representatives and to the designation of their contribution to the economic development of the Don region. The conclusion that in many respects thanks to the initiative and enterprise of the Don Greeks it was possible to revive local trade and industry, to give new content to the forms and methods of entrepreneurial activity is substantiated.
