Abstract. The audiobook as a modern means providing a vivid perception of the content of the fiction or educational text becomes more and more common every year, but it does not have a clear status within the system of culture. At the same time it is related to such fields of culture as media culture, mass culture, semiotics, and others. The central objective of this article is to correlate audiobooks with the listed fields of culture and to identify the prospects of its development along with them.
