Abstract. The article is devoted to the issue of the categorization of the ancient Indian sources of traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda). The brief review of the main literary monuments that serve as the basic structure of Ayurveda is given, significant comments to them are pointed out and the importance of studying them is stressed. Along with form-building tracts the additional sources of traditional Indian medicine are listed. The author specifies the names of the famous masters of Ayurveda, whose works still serve as the basis for medical education in India.
