"PRE-UNDERSTANDING" AS A STRUCTURAL ELEMENT OF HERMENEUTIC PRACTICE

Abstract. The article deals with the meaning of the term "pre-understanding" as a structural element of hermeneutic practice introduced in philosophical hermeneutics by its founder Hans-Georg Gadamer. The model of so-called hermeneutic circle is analyzed critically. The author proposes a hypothesis that in some cases "pre-understanding" identified with understanding reflects achieved by the human combined prior experience, "pre-reflexive purpose of consciousness", the condition, which is previous to the start of the new interpretation and understanding of the undisclosed sense of any phenomenon in the problem situation.
