Abstract. The article aims to show increasing risks making it difficult for the authorities to secure the safe existence of the Russians. The scientific originality of the research involves identifying conditions, under which a negative level of military security may occur and a positive one can manifest itself. The pragmatic value of the paper is argued by the necessity to avoid unpromising concessions to the "offensive" West in the activity of the authoritative guarantors of military security, because the latter are perceived by the opposite party as an indicator of the vulnerability of Russia.
