Abstract. The article is devoted to the main aspects of the participation of Bulgaria in the First World War (1914-1918), which intensified deep internal contradictions in the Bulgarian state and caused the fall of the regime of Ferdinand I in the end. The author analyzes the geopolitical interests and goals of Bulgaria that sought to correct the results of the Second Balkan (Interallied) War and covers the basic vectors of the internal political development of the Bulgarian Kingdom, which strove for hegemony in the Balkans.
