Abstract. The article considers differences in the understanding of the term "public relations" by different social groups. The analysis of the professional definitions and interpretations of this term in everyday consciousness reveals the main trends in the dynamics of the image of public relations in everyday and professional consciousness, and allows determining the reasons of the replacement of the term "public relations" with its alternatives by modern experts.
