Abstract. The article is devoted to the philosophical comprehension of the costume language. Special attention is paid to the costume, which is examined as a hierarchical system of signs leading to the creation of the specific language. It is shown that the costume language uses various symbolic formations. The author proves that symbols in the costume are used for achieving the best informativity in the creation and transmission of artistic images.
